Located in the heart of Gila County, Arizona offers some of the world’s great mountain views. In the 1870s, Globe was founded as a mining camp. Its population of 7,500 is still involved in mining however the City’s tourism and farming increased as well. The town has become popular with those who seek relaxation and adventure. 

Tonto National Monument/ Pinal Mountain Camp Sites

The Tonto National Forest is the largest in Arizona with over 2.9 million acres. The area features some of the most beautiful sights in the country. This National Forest is one of the most visited urban forests in the United States and offers recreational activities throughout the year.

Roosevelt Lake and Marina

Roosevelt Lake was created in 1911 with the completion of the Theodore Roosevelt Dam as part of the Salt River Project. At that time, it was the world’s largest man-made lake. When you visit, you can try the common recreational activities in this area which is fishing. You can find a variety of fish in the lake such as carp, sunfish, channel catfish, flathead, largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Besh Ba Gowah Archeological Park

Besh Ba Gowah was an ancient village, its ruins standing one mile southwest of the City of Globe. The term Besh Ba Gowah was given originally by the Apaches, which translates “Place of Metal”. The place was partially restored with the adjacent museum which provides a perfect glimpse of how the people lived before. Now, go and explore the ruins!
