Roosevelt Lake was created in 1911 with the completion of the Theodore Roosevelt Dam as part of the Salt River Project. At that time, it was the world’s largest man-made lake. Besh Ba Gowah Archeological Park
Besh Ba Gowah was an ancient village, its ruins standing one mile southwest of the City of Globe. The term Besh Ba Gowah was given originally by the Apaches, which translates “Place of Metal”.
